Важной демографической чертой современного мира становится старение населения и увеличение числа пожилых людей. Частота заболеваемости артериальной гипертонией (АГ) увеличивается с возрастом. Анализ национальной репрезентативной выборки свидетельствует о том, что в России распространенность АГ (артериальное давление - АД>140/90 мм рт. ст.) после 60 летпревышает 60%, а после 80 лет приближается к 80%.Таким образом, проблема АГ у лиц пожилого и очень пожилого возраста становится одной из ведущих медико-социальных проблем во всем мире. Рандомизированные контролируемые исследования предоставили неопровержимые доказательства снижения сердечно-сосудистой заболеваемости и смертности на фоне антигипертензивной терапии у пожилых людей при лечении как систолодиастолической, так и ИСАГ. Польза от лечения АГ у пожилых сопоставима с таковой у людей молодого и среднего возраста.
